Product Description

Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide with the amino-acid sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro (MEHFPGP). It was developed from a short fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone, ACTH(4-7), with a Pro-Gly-Pro sequence added to the C-terminus.

The result is an unusual research molecule.

Although its structure comes partly from ACTH, Semax has mainly attracted scientific attention for a very different reason: researchers have used it to explore neuroprotection, neurotrophic signalling, brain responses to ischemia, cognitive processes and neural connectivity.

Some of that work has reached humans. Much of it hasn't.

Experimental models still account for a substantial part of the mechanistic evidence, particularly studies looking at gene expression, neurotrophins, inflammation and cellular responses to neurological injury. Small human investigations have also examined brain-network activity and several neurological settings.

Why Study Semax?

One reason Semax keeps appearing in neuroscience research is that it does not fit neatly into a single pathway.

Neurotrophins are one example.

Experimental studies have reported changes in the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), nerve growth factor (NGF) and their receptors after exposure to the peptide. In a model of cerebral ischemia, researchers observed altered transcription of several neurotrophin and Trk receptor genes, including Bdnf, Ngf, TrkA and TrkC, at different stages after ischemic injury.

There's more going on.

Other work has connected Semax with changes in genes involved in immune signalling, inflammation and neurotransmission following cerebral ischemia. Protein-expression studies have also reported effects involving CREB, MMP-9, c-Fos and JNK, molecules associated with cellular stress, inflammatory responses and neuronal survival.

So the research question has gradually widened.

Rather than asking whether the peptide affects one particular receptor, investigators have used it to explore how neurotrophic, inflammatory and neuronal signalling systems may interact under stress or injury.

Research Applications

Neuroprotection and Cerebral Ischemia

Cerebral ischemia is one of the most extensively investigated areas of Semax research.

Experimental studies have examined whether the peptide can influence the molecular response that follows restricted blood supply to brain tissue. Findings have included changes in neurotrophin expression, immune-response genes and proteins associated with inflammation and cell death.

Cell-culture work adds another piece.

Under glutamate-induced neurotoxicity, Semax delayed disturbances in calcium homeostasis and mitochondrial membrane potential, while neuronal survival increased by roughly 30% under the experimental conditions used.

Mitochondrial and cellular energy research also extends to other compounds. Researchers looking to buy NAD+ online can explore a molecule studied for its central role in cellular redox reactions, energy metabolism and mitochondrial function.

Clinical investigations in acute ischemic stroke reported neurological and biochemical changes associated with Semax treatment, including alterations in post-ischemic inflammatory signalling.

Promising signals. Not final answers.

Neurotrophic Signalling and Neural Plasticity

BDNF has become one of the better-known threads in Semax research because of its role in neuronal survival, synaptic plasticity and adaptive changes within the nervous system.

Experimental work has found that the peptide can alter BDNF and NGF-related gene expression as well as transcription of their receptors.

Researchers are interested in what happens downstream.

This makes the compound useful for studying the molecular machinery behind neuronal adaptation rather than treating “BDNF enhancement” as a stand-alone effect. The exact mechanisms remain under investigation, and many of the findings in this area come from preclinical models.

Cognitive and Brain-Network Research

Semax has also been investigated in relation to cognition and functional organisation of the brain. Researchers comparing Selank for sale can explore a related synthetic peptide with a different research profile spanning GABAergic signalling, stress-related responses, learning and memory.

A small placebo-controlled fMRI study involving 24 healthy volunteers examined resting-state brain activity before and shortly after intranasal exposure. Researchers detected differences in the rostral component of the brain's default mode network compared with placebo.

A later study involving 52 healthy participants investigated whole-brain functional connectivity, including networks associated with the amygdala and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.

The scans changed.

What those changes mean for real-world memory, attention or cognitive performance is a much bigger question, however. Imaging evidence shows that the peptide can be associated with measurable changes in functional connectivity; it does not by itself establish broad cognitive enhancement.

Related neuropeptide research also extends beyond cognition and functional connectivity. DSIP, available for those looking to buy delta sleep-inducing peptide for laboratory research, has been investigated in areas including sleep physiology, neuroendocrine regulation and stress-related processes.

Optic-Nerve Research

Another, less frequently discussed branch of the literature involves the optic nerve.

Controlled clinical research examined Semax alongside standard therapy in people with vascular, inflammatory and other optic-nerve disorders. Reported outcomes included improvements in measures such as visual acuity, visual-field characteristics, colour vision and electrophysiological indicators.

These studies are relatively old and limited in scope.

Still, they provide an interesting example of how research into the peptide moved beyond general cognitive models and into specific forms of neural tissue injury.

Available Forms

Semax may be available in several research formats:

  • Lyophilised powder in a vial

  • Prepared liquid solution

  • Nasal spray

  • Nasal drops

  • Cartridge

  • Peptide Pen / syringe pen

The Peptide Pen format is worth looking at separately, as it differs from the other options not in the composition of the peptide itself, but in how a prepared solution is stored and dispensed.

A Peptide Pen is a cartridge-based dispensing format designed to provide controlled and repeatable delivery of a prepared solution. Depending on the device, the required volume can be selected through an adjustable dosing mechanism, reducing the need for manual measurement during repeated laboratory procedures.

The enclosed cartridge also limits direct handling of the solution and can make multi-step research protocols more consistent when the same measured volumes are required across multiple procedures. Pens vary in cartridge capacity, dose adjustment, calibration and compatibility, so the specifications of the individual device should always be considered when designing a research protocol. For researchers comparing Semax for sale, the format itself does not determine the identity, purity or research quality of Semax.

Research Use Only

Semax remains an experimental research compound in many jurisdictions, and findings from laboratory models cannot automatically be translated into effects in humans.

The evidence base is mixed.

There are human studies, including investigations involving ischemic stroke, optic-nerve disorders and functional brain imaging, but much of the detailed mechanistic evidence still comes from cellular and animal research. Questions surrounding neurotrophic signalling, neuroinflammation, neuronal survival and functional connectivity remain active areas of investigation.

Semax products available for sale in this category are intended strictly for laboratory and research purposes only. They are not intended for human or veterinary use, self-administration, diagnosis, prevention or treatment of disease.
