What it is DSIP stands for Delta-Sleep-Inducing Peptide. It is a short, naturally occurring peptide consisting of nine amino acids. Scientists first isolated it in the 1970s while investigating sleep-related activity in the brain. The name reflects that early work, although research did not remain limited to sleep. Over time, DSIP also appeared in studies of circadian timing, neuroendocrine activity and physiological responses to stress. How it works and what the research shows There is still no clear answer to how DSIP produces its effects. Researchers have not identified one receptor that accounts for its activity, and several aspects of its biological role remain unresolved. Sleep was where the research began. Small human studies reported changes in total sleep time, sleep onset and sleep structure after DSIP administration. Later controlled trials produced less convincing results.
